During Portugal’s Carnation Revolution on April 25, 1974, two songs served as secret signals. The first, “E Depois do Adeus” by Paulo de Carvalho, alerted the troops to prepare. The second, “Grândola, Vila Morena” by Zeca Afonso, was broadcast shortly after midnight and launched the military action. These songs helped coordinate a peaceful revolution that ended decades of dictatorship.
